ABOUT
ABOUT ME

I've been teaching dog obedience classes  professionally for the last nine years. I started really developing my dog training skills after I adopted Sadie Fox. She was very afraid of people when I got her and she and I were having difficulty making a connection. She and I enrolled in a beginning agility class and we were hooked! Shortly after that, I met a fantastic dog trainer that helped me train Max the Menace more effectively.  Sadie Fox and Max the Menace have 10+ agility titles between them. Max the Menace and I also competed in Obedience and he earned his CD and Rally Excellent titles. Max is also a Canine Good Citizen.

I really believe in the 3 F's of training. Training should be FUN for you and your dog. Beginning obedience is often a little frustrating as you and your dog learn to communicate, but having a positive attitude makes a huge difference in the enthusiasm of your dog. Training should be FAIR. That means being consistent in your commands and respecting your dog's pace of learning.  Training should also be FIRM. That means that the person is in charge and the dog needs to obey when a command is given.

MY TRAINING STYLE

I do believe that positive training is the best form of training for obedience. That can be in the form of praise, treats or playtime. I also think it is critical to have the right training tools for your dog's personality. My dogs are VERY different in personality, so training tools that are very effective on Max, will not be effective on Sadie. Different training tool options that I may discuss with you are buckle collars and martingale collars. Everyone needs a 6 ft leash made of leather or nylon.

MY APPROACH

I offer classes in basic obedience with the ultimate goal of improving your relationship with your dog, optimizing their manners, and helping you to develop the training skills to teach your dog to behave in a manner that makes them an important and valuable part of the family.  I also periodically offer Canine Good Citizen testing and Trick Dog.
